The <a href=\"https:\/\/freemason.org\">Grand Lodge of California<\/a> admits men age 18 and older who believe in a supreme being and are found to be of good moral character. To become a Mason, a person must be recommended by two current members of the lodge and voted in unanimously by the members of a lodge.<\/p><p>Other Masonic groups have different requirements for membership\u2014including co-ed and women\u2019s lodges. Each degree involves a ceremony where the moral and ethical teachings of Masonry are expressed and illustrated. One of the most rewarding parts of becoming a Mason is receiving your degrees\u2014and supporting others as they get theirs.<\/p><p>There are three degrees, each containing unique life lessons.<\/p><ul><li><strong>First degree:<\/strong> Entered Apprentice<\/li><li><strong>Second degree:<\/strong> Fellow Craft<\/li><li><strong>Third degree:<\/strong> Master Mason<\/li><\/ul><p>These ceremonies aren\u2019t open to the public; they are for members only. To do this, you can either approach a lodge directly and request information\u00a0or <a href=\"https:\/\/freemason.org\/discover-masonry\/request-membership-information\/\">fill out this request<\/a> for information, and we\u2019ll reach out to help answer questions and connect you to a lodge. If there are multiple lodges in your area, it\u2019s often a good idea to visit several. As a result, Freemasons show up for the events and causes that matter most to their communities.<\/p><p><strong>We\u2019re known for charitable giving.<\/strong><\/p><p>In 2021, Masons raised approximately $6 million for charitable programs through the <a href=\"http:\/\/masonicfoundation.org\/\">California Masonic Foundation<\/a>. At the local level, California Masonic lodges also donated their money and time to countless deserving programs.<\/p><p><strong>We have a long history of supporting public schools. <\/strong><\/p><p>Freemasonry is all about the pursuit of knowledge. And historically, <a href=\"https:\/\/californiafreemason.org\/2020\/02\/25\/a-beautiful-experiment\/\">Masons have been proud champions of education<\/a> and literacy. California Masons continue to support youth education through scholarships, volunteering efforts, and more. Statewide, the <a href=\"http:\/\/masonicfoundation.org\/\">California Masonic Foundation<\/a> is a primary partner of the youth literacy nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raisingareader.org\/\">Raising A Reader<\/a>. Masons also support the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cde.ca.gov\/ta\/sr\/ct\/\">California Teacher of the Year Awards<\/a>, lead Public Education Advisory Committees, and fund the innovative <a href=\"https:\/\/californiafreemason.org\/2019\/01\/01\/an-opportunity-for-success\/\">Investment in Success<\/a> college scholarship program.<\/p><p><strong>We support our most vulnerable.<\/strong><\/p><p>California Masons provide a wide range of care and services for vulnerable seniors through the <a href=\"https:\/\/masonichome.org\/\">Masonic Homes of California<\/a>.
